Question by ploeew: How is the life of a pastry apprentice(In hotels and restaurant) like?
What are the basic skill one must know before hand to make life easiler as a pastry apprentice?
What are the 1st few things a pastry apprentice will be ask to do at the start? Since yr knowledge are limited…
Basically I am posted to a hotel to be a pastry apprentice.. But I have no idea on how a pastry restaurant run.. As i am new in this industrial. I am quite worry that i will be condemned if i were to do something wrong or stupid as impressions really counts as an apprentice. So I really want to know what must I do or prepare before the thing start.. Someone HELP!!!

First off, the hotel will understand that you are an apprentice, and teach you as much as they can. They wont make you go and produce something that you have never done before, they don’t get anything out of you that way. What they will expect you to do is show up for work everyday, and be willing to learn. You may start measuring and weighing products, flour butter, sugar etc. You will probably be an assistant to the most senior member on the team, just go in and learn as much as you can from them.
Do not be afraid to ask questions, ask as many as you can. As an apprentice you are there to learn. You will get the hang of it pretty quick.

What stereotype do you hate about your race?
I find that racism stems from stereotypes and want to give everyone a chance to clear up any misconceptions that others may have of them. I am tri-racial so there are tons of stereotypes for me, lol! Here are some that I found on-line:
1.) That all white women have flat behinds.
2.) That all Jews are greedy.
3.) That all blacks are lazy, on welfare, and don’t believe in marriage before child baring.
4.) That all Asians are good at math.

I hate the stereotype that all blacks are “prone” to violent activities most because it, above all others, is what makes it difficult for blacks (especially black men) to get certain careers. No one wants to hire someone to represent their company who is notorious for being “prone” to violence.

My comment is: Since when is a point of fact like the origin and meaning of the phrase “jump the shark” open to questions, opinions and voting? The answer to the question is a fact, not an opinion on which to be voted.
By the way, several of those who responded to the “jump the shark” question answered it correctly. The phrase originated with the Happy Days episode in which a waterskiing Fonzie jumped over a shark — an over-the-top stunt that future episodes could not equal — marking the point at which the series peaked and thereafter declined.

It isn’t that it was on over the top stunt that couldn’t be equaled. it is that the series had gone beyond being about 1950′s Milwaukee youth and about ratings.
It went completely beyond what the series was about. Jumping the shark refers to the point of no return in a series when the Series has run its course, and has lost the audience.
