Question by Nicole: Any sand castle contest sandcastle ideas?
Help! I am doing a sandcastle contest with my 2 friends against about 14 other groups. Maybe less. We need a great, easy, fast (I’m pretty sure 1- 2 hour idea), fun and creative sand castle idea. We tried to practice making a snowman- and it didn’t work. Then we tried making Noah’s Ark, that didn’t work. No volcano’s or just random small things ever win. Their is 1st 2nd and 3rd, and then the rest win lame prizes. 1st place and maybe 2nd get their picture in the newspaper. I really want to win. Any ideas? Also it helps if you be really really nice to the judges. Any tips on how to make our sand sculpture more noticable to the judges? Any tips to make our production work well? Thanks in return! (We can use shovels, pails, castle molds, die, mostly anything. Plus we have a medium area to use. include name for your idea. Picture or url might also help. We have tons of water to use too. Thanks!)
ANSWER ME PLEASE! THANSK FOR 1 ANSWER THOUGH!

I saw a sandcastle contest last year at VA Beach, and the coolest one was a castle like the castle in The Little Mermaid. I didn’t see them make it, but it looked pretty awesome. Maybe try the Disney castle too

Hmmm…well, depending on the different rules of the contest, you may be able to try mixing food color in with the sand, which, if used CAREFULLY and NOT OVERDONE can look pretty cool. You might try making a Disney-style drip castle (ya know, where you mix sand and water and let it drip through your fingers or a funnel or strainer for a cool, gothic look) because the dye looks really good in them and because you can actually make a large castle in a comparatively small amount of time by building the base up fast just by piling sand into a mound, and then dripping on top of it. Also, I don’t know how good a sand castle architect you are, but I’m not too good and it’s easy to turn a kinda disaster in structure or idea into a impressive feat by repeatedly making new “drip-towers” all over the place…I don’t know, you’re probably a little more prepared than I was.
Anyway, good luck!!!

There are two pics. of different snowmen – maybe you could try again based on the instructions given there: http://www.sandcastlecentral.com/tips/snowman.html

If not, perhaps the pictures at http://www.rense.com/general76/sandcastles.htm will inspire you: the frog perhaps, or the insect.

Had some fun image googling sand castles. I think I love the ones with a sense of humor the most. The sandcastlecentral link seems to have good tips. All I can think is make sure to rehearse your final design 1-2 times.
Looks like no vertical/90 degree angles, seems sloping is a stronger design:

Actually a cake, but cool idea. Potentially simple with molds and looks fun to decorate:
